In the past I only took my iPhone or compacts to concert because usually it is not allowed to take picture or to shoot movies. This great concert was no different: No pictures and no recording of the event! But nobody seems to care about all the smart phones. People used their smartphones to shoot images and movies. I know that movies can be really impressive even in low light but I also know that the images you get when using your smartphones in low light are crap. Continue reading

Driving ( RX100 ), November 2012

The picture above is not sharp or better it is unsharp but it is not totally unsharp. It is easy to see what’s in there: A couple of cars driving along the Autobahn into the setting sun. The fast AF of my RX100 focused on the dead flies on the windscreen and created a better shot than if it would have focused on the cars. Continue reading

This time it’s a less exotic business trip destination. Germany! I have been to Germany numerous of times. I worked for a couple of German companies or companies that had their European headquarter in Germany. I have been there for trade shows and business meetings. Small is beautiful. Less is more. Reduce to the max, Simple life….. We all know about the magic of reduction. Since the economy crises started about 4 years ago reduction is everywhere. It’s almost a kind of hype. Even they still very rich talk about reduction. Of course most of the time they are praying water and drinking wine. But it seems that they don’t feel as comfortable showing their wealth as they did before. Before you blame me to be a socialist living in a nice house on the hill I will stop here.

As much as the magic of reduction is hyped most of the time less means just less. It’s the same with cameras. Less is just less. Continue reading
