Rainy Day Enlightenment

The next day it rained but it wasn’t a problem at all as we planed to visit museums anyway.

On the way we already passed the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art but we decided to visit the D.T. Suzuki Museum first.

I love museums. They are special places and if you don’t insist to visit The Louvre, the National Gallery, the NHM or NKM in Vienna or something similar there is a chance that you might enjoy a very peaceful place.

D. T. Suzuki was a Buddhist Philosopher born in Kanazawa. I knew nothing about him before I visited the museum and honestly I also didn’t learn a lot in the museum because I was more focused on the architecture and the design. The only thing I remember is that he was born into a rich family which allowed him to study philosophy and most of all to travel a lot. He also lived in the USA and Europe. Maybe I’m a little jealous.

The museum was mostly empty but its design is excellent. The shapes, the colours, the materials. This is a beautiful place and my images don’t do it justice.

For this vacation I brought the Z 20mm/1.8 S instead of the Z 14-24mm/2.8 S which was a mistake. I now completely changed to the zoom and sold the 20mm. An excellent lens but of course you can’t ignore the fact that a super wide angle zoom is much more versatile.

I hate to switch lenses and so I shot everything with the 20mm when I should have switched back to the 26mm to have a less extreme angle of view. Should I ever visit again I will shoot with my 14-24mm.

I rested on the benches and tried to take it all in. I took my time but failed to get enlightenment. Except that I would use I wide angle zoom for these kind of pictures in the future. The Nikon Z 14-24/2.8 S is not a small lens but the Z 20/1.8 S isn’t a small lens either.

So maybe this empty museum really helps to get a clear mind.
