Further south we reached the town Split. Split is famous for the Diocletian Palace. A Palace so big that you can confuse it with an old town. It’s 190 meters by 160 meters in size and housed 9.000 people back in the year 305 A.D. Columbus reached America almost 1.200 years later!
Today it’s an UNESCO world heritage and rightly so. It’s an impressive and well known “building” and a tourist magnet. We have been there early June and at lunch time latest you almost get stuck in the narrow backstreets. I can’t imagine what visitor traffic there is in August. I recommend to visit the place just avoid July and August.

I swear I saw the sign when it was already too late. So I took a photo of the no photo no video sign. And another one in the chapel. Then I left and my second visit in Scotland came into my mind. I was in an Art Gallery and I wanted to take a picture. I asked a guard and he said it is not allowed but I can take one or two if I like. I went into the next room and shoot 2 slides. The massive shutter plus rewind noise of my Nikon F801 was clearly heard in the whole gallery. When I left he smiled at me. I was embarrassed by my camera. Almost 20 years later this is no longer an issue.
