In the Museum

FinePix X100 (23mm, f/2, 1/60 sec, ISO320)

The “Naturhistorische Museum” in Vienna is maybe one of the most spectacular and photographer friendly museum I know. As long as you do not use a tripod, they are fine. I did once but had my good friend Harald with me you works there. Back than it was necessary to use a tripod as my Nikon D200 was no the best low light camera on the planet. But these days are gone!

With the X100 you can shoot at very high ISOs without much degradation of the image. Now I also have some people in the frames. When I did the shooting with Harald I ask him to stand still for 30 seconds bend over his tripod. Other people that went through the frame during the exposure were not recorded at all.

But I much prefer to shoot without a tripod especially inside a museum. It is much more discreet! The absence of any shutter noise or beep or any noise at all is also a great feature of the X100 that can not be highlighted enough. You can shoot this camera in a Library!

After this first real low light, high ISO shooting I gained confidence in the X100. Just take a look at the last two images – one was shot at 1250ASA ( see all the small details, there is no smearing at all ), the last at 2000ASA in real low light.

With the X100 shooting at night or indoors is a piece of cake. Now I need to go to Ireland again to revisit all the pubs to take some images ( and maybe to have a drink or two ). Some of them are so dark that you can’t tell whether they are open or closed. The Fuji X100 would be just perfect for the job but maybe I will have an even better low light camera on my next visit to Ireland. Maybe a full frame camera with a 2.0/35mm Zeiss lens attached. Maybe it comes from Sony. Maybe it is called Sony RX1. Exciting times! FinePix X100 (23mm, f/2.8, 1/60 sec, ISO500)
