Perfect Days

Another day, another train ride. This time it’s to the Osaka castle.

Today I started with the lens I finished shooting yesterday. The Z 26mm F2.8. A truly fine lens. It doesn’t make the Nikon Z8 a compact camera, nothing does, but it’s perfect as it doesn’t stick out of the camera body it all. That and the fact that the Nikon Z8 can operate totally silent makes this a discreet setup. Not that anyone would pay attention anymore. I can clearly tell the difference in the images I took before 2011. Now all newspapers and books are gone and replaced by the phone.

After a short train ride and a little walk we arrived at the sight. Well, we arrived at the sign that showed that it takes another walk to get to the castle. This will be a walking vacation and because we spent so many vacations in the USA it’s something we need to get used to again. In the Southwest of the USA you only walk to your car or from your car.

But big cities in Europa and also mostly in Asia usually mean a lot of public transport, taxi and walking.

On our walk we passed food stands that are already opened expecting the many visitors on their way to and from the castle. But we just had our breakfast snacks so I had to pass the Takoyaki (little dough balls with a little piece of octopus inside).

Finally we made it to the gate to get a first glimpse at the castle. I took a first shot but my real focus was to get the stream of visitors and the group of kids in their school uniforms already leaving the castle grounds.

I took a couple of picture of the castle from the distance because I think this is the best way to cover such a large building without massive distortion. We had no plans to visit the castle itself be

On our way back to the translation we passed by school classes and many more visitors on their way to the castle. If you really want to explore the castle I recommend to come here early to avoid the masses.

We also passed this public toilet which was of course pristine. One of the view countries on earth where a visit of a public toilet would not cause post traumatic stress disorder. The fantastic movie “Perfect Days” comes to mind. A Japanese film by Wim Wenders about a man who cleans toilets for a living. One of the best films I saw in the recent years. I highly recommend to watch it.

Back at the train station I switched lenses again. From the Z 24-120mm F 4 S back to the Z 26mm F2.8. This is why I got this lens. It makes carrying the camera much more comfortable because the lens doesn’t stick out of the camera. It’s much better than stowing the camera away because that way you never miss a shot.

I’m really glad that I got the 26/2.8 just before we went on vacation. It’s the perfect lens if you want to keep a low profile and I love the way it renders.
