FUJIFILM X-Pro2 (23mm, f/5.6, 1/1700 sec, ISO200)
The day after the Adele Concert (where we experienced a thunder storm) the sky was cloudless. So before we went back home we visited another castle in Munich.
Schloss Nyphmenburg originally was nothing but a country house but has been expanded during the years. Baroque and Rococo or simply: Kitsch galore. I love it. I already explained that even though I recently bought the Nikon Z8 I decided to bring my trusty Fuji X-Pro2 for this trip. I didn’t miss a thing and the main reason is the fantastic XF 14/2.8 R. For me the highlight in the Fuji lens line. Small and light but powerful.

I already mentioned it in my other castle blog post that the one thing that amazes me the most about Fuji is auto-white balance. Not a single one of those images required any kind of post processing regarding white balance. Which is even more amazing if you look at the images above. There is a room where the dominant colour is yellow, another one where the dominant colour is red and another one where it is blue. Yet on all images red is red, gold is gold and blue is blue next to the beautiful browns of the parquet and the furniture. I have no idea how Fuji does that I only know that other camera makers can’t do it. The Nikon Z8 is miles ahead of my old Nikons and Sony cameras I have used but it is still no match.
Yes Fuji can’t match Canon, Sony or Nikon when it comes to autofocus. So if you want to capture any kind of action Fuji is not the best idea. But most of us don’t shoot action. I even hardly need eye-AF most of the time. Of course I appreciate fast AF and everything that makes it easier to get the shot but I even more so appreciate a small and light camera that gets exposure and white balance right all the time but that is what safes me a lot of time in post processing. The only thing I do is to add the same old Velvia preset that I use for many years now to get punchier images. Not that it would have taken me a lot of work to correct colours if I would have taken my Nikon Z8. It is just a slight adjustment in Lightroom but no adjustment is as fast as no adjustment.

Like the day before in the castle in the centre of Munich this castle got pretty busy pretty quick. That’s why we decided to stroll through the garden and take a coffee. Seems that I can’t stand masses anymore. Not the best precondition for a vacation in Japan. But I’m sure I will get used to it again pretty soon when I’m there.
Back in the shop I saw those beautiful expresso mugs but resisted to purchase them. What looks right at home in a Baroque castle doesn’t necessary look good at home.
Back in August when I took those pictures we had a massive heatwave that lasted until the first week of September. Meanwhile the temperature dropped dramatically from 35 to 5 degrees Celsius within a couple of days. It is cold and it rains all day. From much too hot to far too cold. Seems that this year the weather god just can’t get it right.

One last remark regarding my Fuji X-Pro2, my favourite camera of all times. It was clear to me that I would never sell this camera even though I switched to the Nikon Z8. The X-Pro2 is something truly special. I also had the X-Pro1 and the X-Pro3. The X-Pro2 is my favourite. Practically as fast as the X-Pro3 but without the goofy LCD design. And of course the X-Pro2 still has the navigation pad in addition to the focus joystick. Operation is pure joy and it is small, light and elegant.
My new Nikon Z8 runs circles around my Fuji X-Pro2 regarding autofocus, frame rate or speed in general but when it comes to joy of use it is the other way around.
