Never The Same

Right place, wrong time. The Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, AZ.

This time we just passed by for lunch on our way to Flagstaff so I took a couple of shots on another cloudless day in the USA.

I think the place is cool: Wigwam shaped motel rooms and a couple of old US cars just beside the road. We never stayed in one of the wigwams but we passed here numerous times. The last time it rained but before that we came here in the evening. We stayed in Holbrook and when I saw that I have a chance for a sunset I went out of our hotel one more time in order to give it a shot. My wife stayed in the hotel but I’m glad that I went out one more time. Here is a link to that blog post:

I think the images tell it all. Photography is painting with light. If the light is boring your images most likely will be boring. If your light is great your images will be great even though your subject might be mundane. Light makes or breaks the image.

To be honest I’m not proud of those images. I always try to come back with great images but it seems that I have a problem when I revisit a place that I have visited before in much better and more interesting light. Why even bother to invest a lot of time if I already got a much better picture on one of my previous trips.

This is what happened here and that’s why I shot two more pictures of the DeSoto before we moved on. Even if you visit the same place again it is never the same.
