The world has changed a lot. Warning: Old man rant.
Book worm is not exactly the first term that comes to mind when I think of the young people of today. But to their defense: I’m not sure if we would have been book worms if the internet would have been available back when we were young. Why read a book if you can watch cat videos or some guy jumping into a frozen pool?
Back then there were books, cinema and music. Today there are so many distractions. Instead of two channels on our tv we now got, I don’t know, well over 100. We still watch mostly Netflix of Prime. And of course there is YouTube which gives me the chance to follow the late night comedians like Maher, Colbert, Noah, Kimmel, …
I just realized that it is already a couple of weeks ago that I read my last book and I read it on my kindle (because of the large fonts ;)).

While writing those lines I realized that I already gained a better understand for the young generation and feel kind of sorry for them at the same time. A well written book usually is better than any movie. To listen to music on a record is a completely different experience compared to listen to a track on your phone with those tiny earphones. To feel the music in your stomach. Where was I? 😉
If nobody reads anymore a library in a shopping center seems kind of strange. Until you realize that it is just for show. There is no way to reach most books. The whole library is nothing but an Instagram spot and honestly that’s how I found it when I was still recovering from my Covid infection and searched for an indoor location to avoid the heat and humidity of Seoul, South Korea in August.
Sure some instagrammer were present. One young lady brought her own photographer. On older guy with a X-Pro3. Just like me. The only difference: He had the fingerprint magnet while my X-Pro3 is the regular black and of course I wasn’t in the company of a young Instagram model.
The shopping centre was very busy. Too busy for my taste after 7 days in isolation so I had lunch and moved on.

Outside I was greeted by heat and humidity and by the sound of thousands of cicadas as soon as I was close to a tree. So I had a choice: To either get fried or to lose my hearing. I chose the third option: get back to my hotel to get a rest.
But before that I had to take a picture of this tasteful monument. Now try to get that song and the video out of your head or even revisit it on youtube.
