Rain in the South West of the USA. Even if you travel in the “monsoon” season there is no risk that it will spoil your vacation.

In total we traveled six times through the South West of the USA for three weeks per trip. That’s roughly 130 days and if my memory serves my right we had less than 10 days of rain in total. There is a reason why the South West is mostly desert.

We had a driving day from Santa Fe to Holbrook so it wasn’t a problem at all that there was some rain. I actually prefer cloudy days because the air condition in the case has to work less hard.

When we arrived at the Petrified Forest NP the sun came out and the light was perfect for landscape shots. Especially for the shot below. this is my favourite light. A sunlit landscape in front of a dark and cloudy sky.

Of course the national park is a substantial detour but I think it is worth it. The landscape is  just beautiful and wide.

When we finally arrived in Holbrook it was raining again. We ate at Carl’s Jr where we saw a pretty woman trying to eat the “The Most American Thickburger”. Maybe we stared for a little too long because we wanted to see if it is possible to take a bite. When she looked back we all started to laugh. It turned out that it was the first time that she tried this burger and her attempt was almost successful.

Below a picture of this special burger pimped with sausages and chips! Back then there was also a very funny tv commercial. After “dinner” we drove to our hotel but I went out again a little later in hope to cover a dramatic sunset. More soon.
