Stairway To Heaven

Location hopping in the Arches NP on a hot afternoon.

If I recall it correctly this was our first trip to the Arches NP. And since it was super hot we decided to ride around with our car and stop at the various attractions that are close to the parking lots. In Austria this would be a recipe for disaster. Most of the time attractive spots can only be reached after a long and exhausting hike. But this is the USA and they know what customers want and give it to them on a silver platter.

So even if you are not avid hiker this park is still amazing and there is a lot to see literally a couple of steps from the parking lots.

In the USA they love their warning signs. It seems that danger is everywhere. Bears, cougars, rattlesnakes or a wet floor at McDonalds. I think it has to do with people like to sue companies for practically everything like in case they burn themselves on a hot coffee. Fresh coffee is hot, there is no need to warn you about that. Rattlesnakes are a different thing of course. I would like to know about that.

The rockfall warning was another nice example. If there is rock fall it would make sense to fix it and until it’s fixed to restrict access with i.e.: a tape. The easy to miss warning sign in the corner is not the most effective solution to avoid a disaster but it might be sufficient to avoid damage in a law suit.

The access is somehow restricted as you can see on the third image below.

All the beautiful sceneries in those images are literally just a couple of steps away from the various parking lots in the park. In the next blog post you will see why it still could make sense to go for a hike.
