Small Town

When traveling for work I usually visit the Megacities of Asia. Cities with a bigger population than Austria. On vacation it is different.

Sometimes very different. Welcome to Rico, Colorado. According to Wikipedia the town population was 205 in the year 2000. Maybe there are some more today as I met a young couple with a baby when I stopped to take some pictures of the beautiful facades. A real wild west town.

It used to be a mining town but today it is a good place to have a breakfast or coffee. But we were just about half an hour away from Telluride where we planned to stop for lunch so we went on. Rico is already at 2.700 meters. Just like Telluride. Very high altitudes here in Colorado!

All shots taken with the Fuji XF 18-55 OIS kit lens because on those wide american roads you need to zoom in a little to shoot pictures of the houses on the other side.

The post title is after the song Small Town from the Andy Warhol tribute album from Lou Reed and John Cale. I love the country side. I was born in a small town and now I live in a small town again and I love it but I think at some point of your life you must break out and live in a real city. Same is true for traveling. I think you must see places to get a picture of the world. Enough said.

“There is only one good use for a small town. You hate it and you know you’ll have to leave.”
