Don’t Look Back

My injury caused a delay of my trip but all of a sudden I was in India. For the first time. I didn’t know what to expect and I had no clear pictures regarding the landmarks of the places I would visit.

My trip started in Bangalore, the IT capital of India with about 1 million people working in the IT business. Then I went to Chennai and my last station was Hyderabad. But lets talk about Bangalore first. IT is what made the city rich or better a good part of it’s population.

We had a tight schedule so most of the shooting was out of the car. I discovered that the GR worked better for these type of shots also because of its 28mm lens compared to the 21mm ( the XF14 ) on my XP1.

But beside the 3 boys with the bullock-cart I didn’t see a lot of exotic things. It’s obvious that this is one of the better developed places in India. Good for the people not so good for the photographer. Small shopping centers and chain shops: this place starts to look like any other city in the world beside the auto rickshaws. But most of all it was the tight schedule and my jet lag that kept me from exploring the city. I didn’t manage to get inspired.

Late afternoon on the second day we took a walk around the hotel. It was still hot, extremely loud and busy. I tried my best to take some shots and watch out for the traffic at the same time. I have never heard so many horns in my life.

I didn’t find interesting things to photograph. I guess I haven’t managed to arrive.

The third day was full of interviews and we didn’t leave the hotel till afternoon when we headed to the airport. Before I really arrived to Bangalore I left it for Chennai with mixed feelings. I didn’t know what to expect before I came here but I expected more regarding photographic opportunities.

Never mind, don’t look back. Next city – next chance! Chennai here I come.
