This Spring Sucks

This spring started absolutely great. The warmest March in Austria since 17 hundred something. I was on the bike early and thanks to my new ergometer I had a lot of power already on my first rides. The weather forecast for the last weekend in March was outstanding. I planned to ride my race bike at least on two days.

The first was on Friday. A beautiful, warm and sunny day. Everything was just perfect. Just before I reached home a boy ran into my bike. He ran out of a small side road to cross the street without looking for the traffic and ran directly into me. I crashed hard.

I can’t remember exactly how. The thing I can remember is that I was lying on the road on my back in pain. It was hard for me to breathe because of the strong impact My googles were lying on the street. All 4 glasses out of the frame. A man stopped the traffic asked if I need an ambulance. He put the optical glasses back in place, gave me my googles and a coat while his wife called the ambulance.

After a painful ride to the hospital and another one back home it’s clear. This spring is not great. At least not for me. A broken collarbone, a thorax bruise and several abrasions and a big haematoma I discovered 2 days later. I have to wear a very uncomfortable bandage for about 5 weeks and I need to rest. I can’t do anything at all. I can’t go to work. I can’t ride a bike. I even can not take pictures because I can’t use my right arm and shoulder.

This spring I had so many plans. I wanted to ride my bike. I wanted to visit the Neusiedlersee National Park to shoot some pictures of it’s bird and it’s beautiful landscape. I simply planed to enjoy life. And the weather seemed to be perfect for that.

Now I’m siting inside the house, eating pain killers as if they are candiesĀ and feel sorry for myself. This spring sucks!

BTW: The pictures for this blog post I took at the beginning of March at the Neusiedlersee NP. It was exactly one year ago when I visited this place the last time. On a sunny and cold day just before I left home for my first business trip to South East Asia.
