We’re Walkin’

After we visited the garden we simply walked back to our hotel passing through Kanazawa castle. Different to Kyoto, Kanazawa is a truly walkable city.

And that makes a huge difference. Tokyo and Osaka are massive and you are riding trains all the time. Kyoto is much smaller and public transport is mostly bus lines. Their capacity is limited and sometimes not enough to handle locals and tourists. Kanazawa is smaller than Kyoto. Public transport means buses but those run less frequent which means that we walked a lot again. A vacation in Japan means a lot of walking. If you don’t like that -don’t visit.

We have no problem with that. It’s not any different to most cities in Europe. We just discovered that we are not used to it anymore after spending so many vacations in the USA. In total we visited eight times within 10 years. Only one vacation on the East side, the rest in the South West where the car or better truck is king.

Some hikes in the National Parks aside we didn’t walk a lot. Less steps plus burgers, fries and pizza. It was a disaster. It’s very different here. Excellent and mostly healthy food and in between 15 to 20.000 steps a day. It’s like a training camp. We might return back home in perfect shape!

We had a short rest in our hotel before we went for dinner. Healthy food again in the same little isakaya as the day before.

Life is good!
