Don’t Stop Believin’

We originally planed to stay in Osaka and visit Kyoto and day trips but we had to come back for more.

We decided to stay two more nights in Kyoto in order to visit more temples and gardens. We were lucky to find a reasonable priced hotel directly in the train station. But what worked for Osaka didn’t work for Kyoto. More of that later. It is time for lunch.

After we dropped our luggage at the hotel reception we went into one of the first restaurants within the station. Luckily it was a restaurant specialised in Eel so we had Unagi don. Eel is not cheap but thanks to the weak JPY it was a steal. A perfect gourmet lunch in a train station at a good price. It’s not fiction! This is Japan.

After lunch we explored Kyoto station which is massive and quite confusing. During our stay we would always struggle to find our hotel and wander through walkways full of shops and restaurants. This is a truly big station, it even has dinosaurs.

It’s a Shinkansen station that I have passed dozens of times during my business trips but never had the time to step out to explore it. Now we stay in a hotel inside the train station for two nights so we have to walk through the station at least twice a day. Plenty of time to soak in its busy atmosphere.

It reminded me on our stays at the Caesars palace hotel in Las Vegas where we had to walk through the shopping area in order to get to the strip. It’s fun when you do it the first time. I think next time we will stay in a less busy area of Kyoto.
