Sad Eyes

Last weekend I had the chance to take pictures of Daisy again and to finally use the fold down screen of my new X-Pro3.

This screen was the main reason why I didn’t get (literally) the X-Pro3 when it came out. I just thought it was a stupid idea. I finally got the X-Pro3 a couple of weeks ago and while it is too early for a final verdict I think I like it and I even like its screen.

So far I haven’t used the X-Pro3 for street photography but I already used the flip down display a couple of times as it is extremely convenient for low viewpoints.

I always prefer to shoot my subject at eye level but every time I went down on the floor Daisy was running to me and got on my lap. So I put the camera away and cuddled her. Very nice but go course I also wanted to take some pictures. Then I finally thought about the flip down screen. That way I could stand in front of her and put the camera down to her eye level. It just worked perfectly.

AF worked great too. I just put the AF point over the eye and took the shot. Even with the XF35/1.4R the autofocus was quick and reliable. There was not one single image that was out of focus.

About five years ago I also took images of Daisy. Back then she was a little puppy and my camera was the Fuji X-T1. I used the XF23/1.4R and the XF56/1.2R and it worked but it was far less drama this time. Fuji has come a long way regarding AF. Fuji cameras are still not at the level of the newest cameras from Canon, Sony or Nikon but it is close. At least for static subjects there is hardly a difference.

I remember that the X100 almost drove me nuts with it’s pedestrian AF that you had to put into macro mode for portraits! But later firmware versions improved autofocus dramatically and every new camera from Fuji was a big step forward.

I love dogs but since I travel a lot for business and also for leisure I can’t have one before I retire. So I still got plenty of time to decide on the dog breed. I really like Irish wolfhounds but those are just too big which makes everything difficult and I don’t want to have a dog that potentially scares people. I love English and French Bulldogs but they somehow always look like they are depressed. Not a good thing especially since after two years of Corona I’m close to a depression myself. A dog should lift me up with its happy nature otherwise I could as well get a cat. 😉

So maybe it will be a Samoyed that looks like he is smiling all the time or an English Cocker Spaniel or just a mixed breed. I think it isn’t really important which dog I will finally get. At the end they are all adorable. I read that dogs have no sense of time. Maybe that’s why they welcome you back after your bathroom break as if they haven’t seen you in a long time. They are just amazing! Cats are nice too and they never look sad, they just look bored.
