Silverton, Colorado. Elevation: 2837m, population: 637. Thank you Wikipedia.

A beautiful and colourful small town somewhere in the middle of the mountains. Silverton became big when silver was found almost 150 years ago and it got connected to the railway system.

The silver is long gone, today the major source of income is tourism. But now at end of September the tourists are gone too. There should be snow already but the snow comes late nowadays even in the Rockies.

No tourists, no snow just this small town with its freshly painted store fronts shining bright in the morning sun. Not exactly early morning anymore but we didn’t have a proper breakfast so we went for brunch in the only open restaurant in town.

Some filled toast or burrito. I can’t remember how they called it. Square bread filled with either meat or vegetables. Since the waitress couldn’t remember which was which I needed to cut one open and of course it was the vegetarian style tobu. I passed it to my wife and started to eat mine.

A local came in and started to play guitar. He wore only a shirt so I couldn’t say anything about the open door. I guess it was still a nice and sunny autumn day for them but it was freezing cold for us. We had still a very long ride in front of us down to Holbrook, AZ but the start in the day was perfect. Soon we will be in blistering heat again.

Before we drove on I entered the bank and asked if I could take an image. The guy behind the bars agreed and we talked a little. He told me that it is a copy of the bank in Ouray. I guess it is mainly for the tourists that come here by train and have no car to proceed to Ouray. I also think that he was quite happy that we came in for a couple of minutes because this time of the year his workplace doesn’t seem to be very busy.

When we entered the car it was still below zero degrees Celsius as you can see in the image below. Time to move on.
