At Last

Back in Las Vegas it was time for an evening walk before dinner. But as it was still hot we didn’t walk a lot.

I took my first picture right in front of the colosseum. Maria Carrey, Celine Dion and Rod Stewart. Of course I would choose Rod Stewart but all those stars only play here during winter. I thought I would never see Rod Stewart in concert but I was wrong. My wife gave me the tickets to his only concert in Austria. End of June we went to a great open air concert in front of an old castle.

The Caesars Palace is one of the older hotels on the strip and it is my favourite. I love the design of the forum shops and restaurants. Especially the way they simulate sunsets and the blue hour. I never bought anything here because it is only Gucci and Prada but I usually have dinner in one of the restaurants.

Usually I use my Fuji XF 14/2.8 R but this time it was the XF 16-55/2,8 WR that I just got before this vacation. It’s bigger and heavier than the 14mm and obviously it is not as wide but image quality is excellent too and it is more flexible outdoors. Aperture is the same too and it is very sharp wide open. So instead of two or three primes I only took on lens for my evening walk. I didn’t miss a thing.

Image quality of the XF 16-55/2.8 WR is at prime level. With the 18-55 image quality was compromised but with the 16-55 it is not. It is such a great lens and I’m glad that I finally got it after a lot of hesitation because of it’s size and weight. It’s not small or light but it isn’t a monster either. And if you consider that it replaces a couple of primes and radically reduces the number of lens changes it is a no brainer.

After the first couple of days it has become clear that the 16-55 will be my most used lens in this vacation. Convenience without compromise – just brilliant.

The brings me to the title of this post: At last I experienced a Rod Stewart concert, at last I have a high quality standard zoom again. I almost don’t miss the Canon 24-70/2.8 II anymore. At last!
