The Last Leaf. Almost. I just returned from a 3 weeks business trip in South East Asia. This time I missed home. A couple of days ago my wife sent me a picture of our garden taken with her iPhone. It looked just great. All the trees were glowing red and yellow. When I finally reached home most of the trees have lost their leaves.<\/p>\n

Most but not all. There were enough left to take some golden autumn pictures.<\/p>\n

This year I travelled a lot. I had a 3 week vacation in California, three business trips in South East Asia and a one week vacation in Croatia. In total I spent more than 10 weeks abroad. I saw a lot of new and spectacular things but “there is no place like home”. All the images in this post I took in my backyard. Beauty can be found everywhere. No need to fly \u00a0around half of the globe.<\/p>\n

When I saw the light in the trees I took my Canon 6D and put on the great 2.8\/70-200 L IS II. There is no question that smaller sensors improved a lot. APS-C sensors have become very, very good and even m43 can give you excellent results. They offer great results at ISO settings unthinkable a couple of years ago.<\/p>\n

But nothing beats a fast lens on a full frame camera. The extremely shallow depth of field, the way it renders the out of focus parts in the image, the way it deals with light. I love compact, big sensor cameras like my Fuji XP1 or my Ricoh GR but full frame is best. Size does matter!<\/p>\n

When I saw the planes in the sky I thought about how much I love to travel. Ever since my very first trip to Scotland more than 20 years ago. Nothing has changed. I still love to travel, to meet people, to see places. I’m much older now but I’m still excited and curious like a child when travelling and it will never change. And there is another thing that will not change: I always love to come home.<\/p>\n
