What’s so special, it’s just a grasshopper? Yes but not an ordinary one. When I came to my car the day before yesterday I found this little fellow on the hood of my car. I jumped in to get home sure that the grasshopper would jump off the car as soon as I start to drive. He didn’t. He did not even jump off at one of the stops before I entered the highway.<\/p>\n

Sure he will fall off when I start going faster. He did not! The grasshopper stayed on the hood even when I was driving 130km\/h ( about 80 miles\/h ). A strong and truly dedicated guy! When I reached home he was still there and looked ok. I decided to take a picture to show him to my wife and reached for my iPhone. Then I realized that I have a real camera with me all the time now. The Ricoh GR.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s not a dedicated close up camera. Actually it’s far from it but I gave it a try. \u00a0Here is the result. The shot is slightly cropped to get the grasshopper out of the center and there is a +0,60 stop exposure push in Lightroom. Otherwise the image is unchanged! It’s a RAW file converted to JPEG with LR5. White balance is a little off because the car was standing in deep shade but I like it as it is.<\/p>\n

What I liked even more was the result. Only a large sensor camera can give you this nice, shallow depth of field that trows busy backgrounds out of focus. Bokeh seems to be very nice too. And just have a look at the image below. Sharpness is outstanding! What a great, little camera ( or littlebigtravelingcamera ). But it is even more than that. It’s a camera you can take with you all the time. Just like the Sony RX100. But with two big differences: 1. its sensor is a lot bigger 2. it handles like a real camera.<\/p>\n
