There are some disadvantages of traveling light. I left my DSLR in the RV which turned out to be a big mistake. I wasn’t prepared to see pelicans in flight and a lovely sea otter mum with a pup. Too bad. I took images of both and made a video of the sea otters. But a lens with 55mm isn’t enough even on an APS-C sensor. That’s a mere 80mm and this is not long enough for these kind of images.

Not sure whether I should get the 18-200 lens from Sony or Tamron but I think I will for the next big trip. Sometimes you need a longer lens. I traveled Croatia this June and had only my NEX and the X100 with me. Just on some occasions I missed a longer lens. Especially for that sunsets on the sea. You need a real long lens to get a big sun.

NEX-5 (22mm, f/5.6, 1/320 sec, ISO200)

In the last shot I liked the bold color. If you take a closer look you see me in the window taken the image. I use the flip screen like most o the time. I really like that. I always thought that shooting on eye level is not the best idea in my case. It’s convenient but I think it is too high because I’m tall. The flip screen helps me to get a lower “eye level” for the camera without the need to bend my back. It also helps to get some shadow on the screen which is hard to read in direct sunlight.

I said that I like the colors in the shot but it is not always that way when shooting with the NEX. Sometimes the colors are to cold and sometimes I discovered a greenish tint. I recognized it first when I saw images of my Canon DLSRs and NEX images side by side. I clearly prefer the Canon colors and I also think that the are closer to real life than the colors of the Sony. It’s not an unmanageable issue ( if you shoot RAW ) especially if you don’t shoot portraits but I would like Sony to work on that.

NEX-5 (16mm, f/6.3, 1/250 sec, ISO200) There is a certain image that comes to my mind regarding american houses.
