Last autumn in Austria was warm and sunny. This one is not. At least so far.<\/p>\n

September was mostly cold and there was a lot of rain. And October is not that much different so far. We still went for a day trip to the Neusiedlersee NP and I was curious how the lake would look like. There was a lot of rain in autumn but spring and summer were hot and dry. As a consequence the lake is at its lowest water level for years. And this is a not a deep lake to begin with. The deepest parts are only 1,80 meters deep, this year it is almost 40cm less.<\/p>\n

It’s always windy at the lake but this day there was a storm of 70km\/h. Tough conditions for a walk or photography but perfect for the windsurfers. Not every surfer was up to the job. But this is a shallow lake. If you get off the board you can easily stand beside it like the surfer in the image above.<\/p>\n

I chose to put my XF 50-140\/2,8 OIS WR on my X-Pro3 because it is my newest camera which should have the best autofocus but forgot to put the AF-switch to C for continuous autofocus. So on my series I ended up with out of focus shots every time the surfer moved away from me. I also used only single point because I didn’t want to play around with camera settings. The small AF field was hard to keep on the surfer because my of the strong wind. Next time I know better. AF-switch to C and larger area for tracking.<\/p>\n

By now I think it is clear that I’m not an action photographer. I haven’t shot any kind of fast paced action since the Nikon D2H. After my Nikon years I got a Canon 5D which was anything but an action camera. After that I switched to Fuji. First the X100 and later the X-Pro1. Great cameras but not for action. I think a lot has changed with the newer cameras. My X-Pro3 should be easily good enough to get those windsurfers in focus but it can’t compensate for the idiot behind the camera of course.<\/p>\n

I took more shots that day. Landscape images. I think I’m just better with static subjects. More on that here soon.<\/p>\n
