From the freezing cold in the Rockies in Colorado to the dry heat in the desert in Arizona within a couple of hours.<\/p>\n

We started in Ouray early morning with the plan to get to Holbrook, Arizona. This was the second longest drive during this vacation and I’m still amazed how much we packed into it. The Petrified Forst National Park was our last stop of the day. After a long day on the road we decided to take the detour because it’s located on the way to Holbrook and because I forgot how big it is.<\/p>\n

We didn’t do a lot of walking because we wanted to reach our destination of the day before sunset.<\/p>\n

But of course we stopped around every corner to take some pictures. The Petrified Forest NP is a fantastic place with beautiful and exotic landscapes. I’m always amazed how colourful those rocks are in the desert. Before I came here to the deserts of the South West for the first time I always imagined a desert to be a bleak and monotonous place but that far from the truth. At least when it comes to the deserts of the South West.<\/p>\n

At the end we did a short walk together with a bus load of tourists. Another misconception regarding the desert. I always thought that those are lonely places but again that seems to be far from the truth at least here in the South West of the USA.\u00a0They are still fantastic and something you should not miss.<\/p>\n

Finally we have made it to Holbrook.<\/p>\n
