A travel day: Las Vegas to Springdale. End even though we go from Nevada to Arizona to Utah it is only a short trip.<\/p>\n

But breakfast first. I know that this breakfast sandwich from Starbucks looks disgusting but it was surprisingly good. I learned long time ago that you should not judge food by its look and sometimes not even by its smell.<\/p>\n

After breakfast we drove off and we didn’t stop before Saint George where went for a coffee break. That’s were we spotted a rather special Dodge RAM.<\/p>\n

I love trucks but usually a truck is not a head turner for me after the third day in the South West because they are everywhere. The Ford F150 is the best seller in the USA, it’s their Volkswagen Golf if you like. Given the choice I would take the F150.<\/p>\n

But back to the old Dodge truck. It’s amazing what a paint job and some butterflies can do. It transfers a rather martial looking truck into a love and peace – vehicle. I think it is needless to say that the owner matched perfectly. The lady was a first hand witness of the flower power movement.<\/p>\n

In my last post I already raved about the XF 16-55\/2.8 WR and here I have to do it again. This is such an excellent and versatile lens that gives me outstanding results even for everyday shots. One of the very nice features that doesn’t get mentioned often it its very short close focus distance. In that regard it is almost as good as the XF 16\/1.4 WR. And I also think that the Bokeh is very nice too for such a lens.<\/p>\n

Of course there is less blur because it is only f2.8 but honestly for close up shots f1.4 is not that useful at all. So in real life the XF 16-55\/2.8 WR gives you 90% of what the XF 16\/1.4 WR can do but it also replaces a 23, 35 and 55 prime lens most of the time. I’m a prime person for my Asia trips. I love what the 14\/2.8 and the 35\/1.4 can do and I love how small my camera is with those lenses and especially with the 23\/2 but on vacation I prefer zooms because of their flexibility.<\/p>\n

In the past I never was really happy when using the XF 18-55 OIS. Most of all it is not wide enough but also because I could see a clear difference in between a shot I took with the kit lens and one I took with one of my primes. The 16-55 finally brings back real wide angle and it produces images that are indistinguishable from images I take with my primes. The only exception of course is if I shoot the 35\/1.4 wide open but stopped down I can’t tell a difference.<\/p>\n

I always had a hard time with standard lenses. The only one that I really loved was the Canon 24-70\/2.8 II. With the XF 16-55\/2.8 WR it is the same. So if you wonder why this lens has to be so big and heavy compared to the kit lens: All the glass is there for a good reason!<\/p>\n

BTW: In the last shot there is a brand new Ford F150 next to a Hummer.<\/p>\n
