Leaving Agra

Leaving the Taj Mahal the second time. I will come back for sure but I don’t know when.

This is a special place.  It shows the unbelievable richness of the mogul that lived about 400 years ago. While most of the people were extremely poor he had the money to build this gigantic tomb for his beloved wife.

When you leave the Taj Mahal you can’t help to think that not that much has changed in India within the last 400 years. The majority of its 1.3 billion people are still extremely poor, just like 400 years ago while a small minority gets richer every day. There is no way to avoid those thoughts when you ride through the streets of Agra. Like in so many places in India the poverty is overwhelming. Where goes all the money from those millions of visitors? I don’t know but for sure it does not help the people of Agra.
