The End of The Road, Dubrovnik

On the 5th day we reached Dubrovnik about 1.000km away from where we started. It’s not the end of the road but we ran out of country. Croatia does end here. Next country is Monte Negro and than Albania. But we have no intention to go there in this trip. Dubrovnik is the turning point. Why did we rush down so fast? There are two reasons:

We are used to travel fast when on vacation especially in the first half. I think we always need some time to get there. I mean mentally. To be on vacation and relax.

The weather: The weather forecast was very poor that’s why we decided to come here instead of Cornwall. We ran away from the weather front by going south as fast as possible and it worked. Forecast for next week is a lot better so we will se all the great nature spots in excellent weather.

Dubrovnik is a wonderful city with lot’s of history. When you visit it today you can not believe that parts of the city were destroyed during the war just 10 years ago. They rebuilt everything and of course Dubrovnik is also a UNESCO world heritage.

And because it is located by the sea it is visited by lot’s of cruisers in the summer months. Once again we were lucky to be here so early in the year but it was busy still. Good thing is that Dubrovnik also has lot’s of 4 and 5 star hotels so good last minute deals can be found. We stayed in a 5 star hotel ( the only one in this trip ) for the price of a Bed in Breakfast in Cornwall. That’s one of the advantages when traveling in Croatia. You still get a lot for your money but you have to look out for good values. This is true for hotels and apartments but even more for food. You can eat for very little money and you can spend a fortune. It’s up to you but there is plenty of choice. I love traveling in Canada or USA but eating out here is a lot better especially if you like me love fish and seafood you are in heaven. FinePix X100 (23mm, f/8, 1/80 sec, ISO200)

I checked weather in Cornwall from time to time and I think it was a good decision to come here. FinePix X100 (23mm, f/5.6, 1/70 sec, ISO200)
