The Bridge

First time in San Francisco in 2010 I missed to cross the bridge. This time it was the first thing we did when we arrived.

Back then we were in an large RV and stayed on the camping site beside a football stadium. We used a shuttle bus to bring us in the center so we never came close to it. Beside that it was covered in fog most of the time even though the sun was shining in the city.

What a beautiful building but it is almost impossible to photograph like all big and beautiful things. You need to be very far away to get it one single frame and than the reference points like people or cars become too small. I failed to get a good shot of the whole thing but I enjoyed being there.

I did not walk on the bridge though. I saw the documentary “The Bridge” on the internet before the trip. A controversial documentary from 2006. If you don’t know the film google it or search for it on youtube. It deals with people who committed suicide by jumping from the bridge ( and they ones they left behind ). Over 1.500 have done it so far and make the Golden Gate Bridge one of the “suicide hot spots” in the world. The movie is unbelievable sad. One guy left a letter. He wrote that we will not jump if somebody gives him a smile or a nice word during the day. He jumped.

The Golden Golden Gate Bridge is truly fantastic. An impressive building and a must see when you are in San Francisco. Go there, look at it, take a couple of pictures but don’t jump unless you have a very good reason to do so.
