No Place Like Home

There is no place like home! I think that line reminds me on a movie somehow? There was a rainbow but I’m not going down this yellow brick road now.

I love to travel but I also love to come home. I have seen more spectacular landscapes than the ones in Austria. I have seen cities more beautiful than Vienna. I stayed in places that were more attractive than where I live now. But there is one big difference: This is the place where I was born and raised. Vienna is the city where I lived half of my life. And that’s something.

From my house I enjoy a nice view over the hills of the Viennese forest. It’s hard to believe that I’m just a 30 minutes drive away from the city. It’s so green here. Especially in spring when everything is bursting to life. When the old sour cherry trees bloom just right outside my window. And sometimes when it’s cloudy and the sunlight just burst through the clouds the light is magic. I ran out on my patio a couple of times but when I raised the camera the sun was behind a cloud again.

Finally I made it out in time and the sun was there for a couple of minutes. The bloom was already over the top. That means the trees have grown some leaves already but there was still enough white to give a good contrast to the dark clouds behind. That’s my favorite light for landscape photography.

For the last two shots I didn’t even leave the house. The first one I took sitting on the dining table and the last shot I took from my sleeping room looking out into the setting sun. I used live view to focus on the screen door to give it a special look.

I don’t have a spectacular mountain or ocean view but I still like it. We don’t have the best weather here but we got seasons. We got warm summers, beautiful autumns, dark and cold winters and we got spring. As much as I love the endless summer in California I would for sure miss the seasons.
