Set Fire To the Rain

I’m still at home, recovering from my road bicycle accident. While I spend most of my time sleeping, resting or watching TV I thought I might post some pictures from my second trip to South East Asia. This time it’s from Malacca, Malaysia.

In Jonker street there is a pub called Geographer Cafe. It serves overpriced drinks to tourists but there is live music – very good live music. If I remember correctly the young lady comes from the Philippines but lives and studies in Malaysia now. Her father played the keyboards and the performance was great. She mainly sang Jazz standards but also performed a couple of songs from Adele.

I switched to the 35mm lens and chose a shutter speed of 1/125s to freeze the motion. ISO was in between ISO 3.200 and ISO 5.000 at f1.4! These shots would not have been possible with the 2-3 stops slower zoom lens.

Because the 35mm was a little too short I put the door and in the last shot the waitress in the foreground. It came out very nice. The Fuji 1.4/35 renders the out of focus parts very well for such a short focal length. I’m glad that I didn’t had a longer lens with me. The shots are more interesting because the include the environment and give a better idea of the location.
