In The Army Now!

Today we get the opportunity to vote against the general conscription and for a professional army. I’m not sure we need either but when I look at the map there are not too many countries left that have a general conscription, especially in the “Western World”. I was in the army once but honestly I would prefer to be defended by professionals should there ever be a need. If I want to have my teeth checked I go to see my dentist not my neighbor.

Enough talk about politics. I shot those with the 35mm lens on my X-Pro 1. I love this camera. It’s image quality is wonderful. It’s not the fastest regarding AF especially with the 35mm lens but it works. I let the solders pass and took a couple of shots as fast as possible. I cropped the images to give the impression that it is an endless number of soldiers. It wasn’t to be honest. Austria is a small country, we don’t have many but please do not invade!

Back to the cropping. I liked the first image because of the symmetry and the colors but I did not like the faces. Young boys rather than tough soldiers. So I chopped off the heads. I like the effect and the message. Thanks to the large files it is easy to do some cropping and still have plenty of pixels left. About 8MP on the first image and roughly 14MP on the second. My first DSLR had 2,7!
