Cold Weather Blues

The last time I traveled was February 2020 when I was in Japan. Exactly a year ago. Since then everything has changed for almost all of us.

Of course I hate the current situation but I got no real reason to complain. I’m still healthy and I still have my job. And it’s the same for my friends. So I can’t really complain but of course I want my life back. I want to go to a cinema or a restaurant. I want to see my friends. I want to travel. But none of those things are really possible right now and it will remain like that for at least another couple of months.

Here is what I wrote in March last year when I had to cancel my trip to Korea because of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The only highlights of the last year were the bike rides with my wife. In autumn we rented e-MTBs and right after that we got one for my wife. Now we can ride together. She on her new eMTB and me on my old Specialized Epic Carbon. Sometimes she needs to wait a little on a steep climb and I need to wait a little on the way down. In short it works just perfect. She enjoys the ride and I can work hard to keep up on the climbs. It’s just perfect. Those images I took on a ride in December. Those rides are around 2,5 hours and at the end the battery of her bike is still half full but “mine” is empty.

We planned to ride the whole winter but now there is snow and ice in the forest and the last couple of days the temperature is in between -11 to -5 degrees Celsius. So it is simple too dangerous and frankly also too cold to ride the bike. But it is mid of February, it will get warmer soon and we will ride again.

I still have no idea when we will be able to travel again.

PS: All pictures take with the iPhone because it was grey and dark and I didn’t expect the nice scenery caused by the frost.
