Ouray is the Switzerland of America. At least according to them. Of course it helps that most Americans never been to Switzerland.
I wrote this already in my blog many years back when I was here for the first time. But this time feels different. When we came her first the weather was poor. It was raining and it was rather cold. This time there was not a single cloud on the sky.
We had a coffee break in a small cafe that wasn’t there back then or we simply didn’t remember. Excellent espresso and really a really nice chocolate and marzipan mouse. Almost like in Switzerland. Maybe Ouray is really the Switzerland of the USA.
Fine “dining” especially compared to Leadville, the highest city in the USA, where my wife got her Burrito filled with Sauerkraut because of a misunderstand. She wanted sour cream. I still have to think of it from time to time and it makes me smile. The surprised look in her face and the laughter when she realized what happened.
Coffee usually is a sad affair in the USA if you are not in a fancy barista place but there are exceptions and this is one of them.

Those mining towns in the Rockies had a tough time when the mines closed but the developed into tourist magnets and it’s easy to see why. There are the foreigners from Europe and all over the world just passing by on their road trip and there are of course many local tourist with their mountain bikes and hiking boots.
Ouray is a great little town especially if the weather is nice. We sat outside for beer and snack at the Ouray Brewery in the picture below. Maybe not the gourmet hotspot of the town but to watch the traffic from the roof top is fun.
In the last image you can see the moon on a cloudless sky. We will have a cold night with sub-zero temperatures. Finally autumn arrived here.
