Smoke On The Water

Sometimes there is an opportunity for a great picture but you didn’t bring a camera. Nowadays there is a solution: use your phone.

Yesterday I went to Germany to visit a medical exhibition. No luggage, just a small laptop bag and of course no camera. When I left Vienna it was dark, grey and it rained but shortly after the start we were above the clouds.

When the plane approached Düsseldorf I saw those three power stations sticking out of the fog. It looked fantastic. I took an image including the wing and one with a focus on the steam coming out of the chimneys.

Those pictures work best on a cold day when the temperature is below zero.

But my favourite shot is the one below. Fog over the river Rhine. Smoke on the Water. I wished I had a real camera with me but I’m quite happy with the result I got from my phone. Of course the image quality is compromised but a phone camera is still better than no camera at all.
