Brand New Day in LA

The sky is cloudless and blue, there are palm trees everywhere and the car beside my is a Dodge Challenger in bright yellow. Life is good!

We are finally in the USA again. This time we are in the South West. 😉

Ok, fun aside. We again found some new places but we started in LA. So it’s a brand new day in LA. Except the day is not so brand new for us. We decided to go to LA this time because we finally have the option of a direct flight. It’s still 12 hours though which explains the expression on the face of the stewardess. I’m a little tired but they must be exhausted. But not because of me. On a plane I’m an easy customer. I take me meal together with a little pill and “pass out” until landing.

My wife stayed awake the whole flight so she was a little tired when we landed. But the sun is magical here. It boosts you from the very first second. The older I get the more important the sun becomes for me. I guess that explains why most of the retired people in Austria look like as they were born in the Caribbean.

So after a short delay at the Alamo station we went to our hotel in Santa Monica.

It wasn’t Alamo that caused the delay. It was me. I wanted to get a new Ford Explorer but there was none available. Also no Chevrolet Tahoe. I was offered a Nissan Armada but I didn’t like the idea to drive around in a Nissan. Luckily the guy from the renting station didn’t like the idea to have people with an awful lot of luggage standing around on his parking lot so he offered an upgrade. An Infinity QX80.

I know it’s almost the same car with a fancier badge. So initially I wasn’t to happy but boy was I wrong. The Infinity proved to be a great car! They best full size SUV I ever rented and comfort was close to the Buick Enclave that we rented two years earlier.

Why do I write in such lengths about our rental car? It will be our car for the next three weeks and we will drive a lot so I think it is important that the car is nice. And this car is nice: 5,6 litre V8 with 405 horse power. This is our waggon though the west. Just imagine a horse cart pulled by 400 horses. I think this car is the more practical solution.

Not much to say about our early dinner. It was the closest to our hotel. Sunny day or not, this day was long and we are in for an early night.
