Something Completely Different

We were still in Santa Barbara when it was time for lunch. I chance to break out of our burger routine.

I love to travel in the USA. It is just great except for two things: food and drink. I’m sure that there are many fine restaurants in the United States but if you leave the big cities behind the chance that you end up in a burger joint is huge. Same is true for coffee. Unless you visit Seattle this country is a waste land.

Please don’t get me wrong. I’m no snob and I’m not a vegan either. I love a good burger. But if I eat a burger every day (and sometimes even twice a day) for let’s say a week I’m more than happy to get something else.

Of course we also go to Panda Express or Chipotle or Applebee’s or Schlotzky’s but sometimes you need to eat in a non-chain restaurant. Like here in Santa Barbara where we went to a vegan restaurant before or this time to a place called Caffe Primo.

The name suggested alternative food and good coffee. Just what you need when you travel through the South West. I recommend to use every single opportunity. There will be days where you can’t even find a Carl’s Jr.

The XF 16/1.4 WR is a fantastic lens and it’s also an extremely good lens for food photography.

There are two reason why I didn’t shoot it that much during our vacation. 1. It is rather big and heavy compared to my other lenses. 2. We ate burgers, burritos or sandwiches most of the time. But not on that day. That day we ate something completely different.
